This is our Best Value pick for Messina, chosen for its balance of score, review count and price. It suits couples and families who want to walk to the cathedral and restaurants, drivers who need free parking, and anyone catching a ferry, as guests say the terminal is close.
Skip it if you are strict about bathrooms. The recurring complaint is a lack of hooks, shelves and accessories, plus some unfinished fixtures. Skip it too if you just want the lowest rate for a good score, because it is the most expensive of our three picks in this city.
Location and getting around
The address is Piazza Basicò. Guests describe a central setting near the cathedral, restaurants and the ferry terminal, and they rate the location 9.0 out of 10.
Three sights are within a short walk. Messina Cathedral is about 0.5 km, around 6 minutes on foot. The Orto Botanico "Pietro Castelli" dell'Università di Messina is also about 0.5 km, around 6 minutes. The Church of the Santissima Annunziata dei Catalani is about 0.6 km, roughly 8 minutes. These are straight-line estimates that have not been verified. Free parking is listed.
What guests say
The score is 8.7 out of 10 from 265 reviews, joint first of 4 eligible properties in the provider sample.
Staff get warm comments. Guests describe a friendly, welcoming team that gives helpful advice and local recommendations. The central location is the other strong point.
The weak spot is the bathroom. Guests mention no hooks or shelves, missing accessories and some unfinished fixtures, such as shower screens. It is a practical annoyance rather than a deal breaker for most, but worth knowing.
Price and what you get compared with our other picks
The reference price seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 (10 to 12 Nov, 2 adults, one room) was €144 per night. It is not a live quote. Check today's price for your dates.
You get a 4-star hotel with free parking, family rooms, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and a 24-hour front desk. The breakfast listing covers continental, Italian, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options; whether breakfast is included in your rate is not confirmed.
Here the picks do not follow the usual price order. Our Budget pick, Hotel Royal Palace, is a 4-star scoring 8.0 at €93 per night. Our Luxury pick, Vmaison Hotel Messina, is a 4-star scoring 8.7 at €86 per night. Fontana Falconieri matches Vmaison on score but costs €58 more per night at reference prices. What it adds is free parking, a 24-hour desk and more reviews behind its score.
Why it made our top 3
Only 4 hotels were compared in Messina. Fontana Falconieri tied for the best review score and had the most solid mix of score and review volume, which is how our Best Value slot is decided. It is not necessarily the cheapest option, and here it clearly is not.
Before you book
Compare today's prices with Vmaison Hotel Messina, since the gap may have changed. Check whether breakfast is included and what the cancellation terms are.
If bathroom storage matters, read recent reviews or ask the hotel. Room size, noise and renovation condition have not been assessed. Pet rules are not confirmed in our data, so ask if you travel with one.
