This is our Luxury pick for Hakodate. It suits couples and travellers who want a resort stay at Onuma, outside the city, with free parking and a free airport shuttle listed. Drivers will get the most out of it.
City-break travellers should think twice. As the name says, it sits about 30 km from Hakodate Station. If your plan is to walk between sights and restaurants in town each evening, one of our other two picks will fit better.
Location and getting around
The address is Onuma 85-9. The location score is 9.3, but that reflects guest views of the setting, not closeness to the city.
Shiryōkaku is 19.1 km away, about 239 minutes on foot. Goryōkaku is 21.6 km, about 270 minutes, and the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church of Hakodate is 24.4 km, about 305 minutes. All are far. You will need a car, public transport or a taxi for any of them.
Free parking is listed, which helps if you are driving. The free airport shuttle is also listed, but check its schedule and whether it needs booking ahead. Walking times are straight-line estimates and have not been verified.
What guests say
The guest score is 9.0 out of 10 from 109 reviews. In the provider sample it shared first place on review score among 8 eligible properties.
Our data does not include a written summary of specific guest likes or dislikes. We cannot say which parts of the stay guests rate highest. Read recent reviews for comments on rooms, dinner, the shuttle and the drive in.
Price and how it compares with our other Hakodate picks
Reference prices seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 for 2 adults were €236.47 per night. The sample median was €83.39, so this costs close to three times the typical rate. These are not live quotes. Check today's price for your dates.
Toyoko Inn Hokkaido Hakodate Ekimae Asaichi, our Budget pick, is a 3-star hotel scored 8.2 at €49.24 per night. JR Inn Hakodate, our Best Value pick, is a 3-star hotel scored 9.0 at €96.67 per night.
JR Inn Hakodate matches this resort on guest score for well under half the price. What the extra money buys here is the 5-star rating, a restaurant, a garden, a terrace, free parking, the airport shuttle and an American breakfast. It does not buy a city location.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 8 eligible hotels in Hakodate. Our Luxury slot goes first to official 5-star hotels, and this one is rated 5 stars with a joint-top guest score of 9.0.
That combination earned the place. The distance from town is the honest tradeoff.
