Hampton by Hilton Canterbury
By the Top3Hotels editorial team. Based on Booking.com guest scores and reviews, location data and reference prices. We did not stay at this hotel. Updated 2026-10-24.
Yes, it is worth booking if you want to sleep a few minutes from Canterbury Cathedral for only a little more than our Budget pick. Light sleepers who are fussy about mattresses should read the bed comments first.

First-time visitors who want to see the cathedral and the old streets on foot are the best match. Couples on a weekend break and rail travellers will also find it convenient.
Skip it if you need extras like a pool, a spa or a restaurant on site, since none are listed. It is also a 3-star hotel. If mattress firmness matters a lot to you, note that guest views on the beds are split.
Location and getting around
The hotel is at 7 St. Margaret's Street. Canterbury Cathedral is about 0.3 km away, roughly 4 minutes on foot. St Augustine's Abbey is about 0.6 km, around 8 minutes. These are straight-line estimates and have not been verified on the ground.
Guests describe a central setting near the cathedral, shops, restaurants and the train stations. The location score is 9.7 out of 10, the strongest number on this page.
What guests say
The overall score is 8.7 out of 10 from 4,203 reviews. That placed it second of 5 eligible hotels in our sample on review score.
Location leads the praise, closely followed by the staff, who are called friendly, polite and helpful.
The beds divide opinion. Some guests find them large and cosy. Others report mattresses that feel hard, lumpy or small. Since room types and sizes have not been assessed, it is worth asking what bed size you will get.
Price and how it compares with our other Canterbury picks
Reference prices seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 (10 to 12 Nov), for 2 adults in one room, put it at €93.16 a night, the same as the sample median. These are not live quotes, so check today's price for your dates.
Our Budget pick, Best Western Abbots Barton Hotel, was €85.80 a night with 3 stars and 8.0. Our Luxury pick, Canterbury Cathedral Lodge, was €174.86 with 4 stars and 9.0. That means about €7 more per night than the Budget pick buys a higher score and a much shorter walk to the cathedral. The Luxury pick costs almost twice as much.
Listed facilities are free Wi-Fi, a fitness centre and air conditioning. Breakfast options include continental, full English, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and buffet. Whether breakfast is included in your rate is not confirmed.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 5 eligible hotels in Canterbury. This is our Best Value pick, chosen by balancing guest score, number of reviews and price, not by price alone. It scored second in the sample, has thousands of reviews, sits at the median price and has the best location score of our three picks.
The weaker points are the mixed bed comments and a short list of facilities.
Before you book
Ask about bed size and type if comfort is your top concern. Check whether breakfast is included and what it costs. Read the cancellation terms, which we have not assessed.
Parking is not listed in our data, so if you drive, confirm options and fees with the hotel in advance.
