This hotel suits short city breaks, work trips and families who want a predictable room near shops and restaurants. Family rooms are listed, and guests like the breakfast.
Skip it if you want a five-star stay. Our Luxury pick, Ellenborough Park, fills that role at about three times the price. Drivers should also note that parking adds to the cost.
Location and getting around
The address is Dunalley Street. The location score is 9.2, and guests mention the Brewery Quarter, shops, restaurants and a cinema nearby.
Cheltenham Synagogue is about 0.5 km away, around 6 minutes on foot. Coombe Hill Canal is 7.5 km (about 94 minutes) and Winchcombe Castle is 9.2 km (about 115 minutes). These are straight-line estimates. The last two are far, so you will need a car, public transport or a taxi to reach them.
What guests say
The score is 8.4 out of 10 from 3,140 reviews. Among the 7 eligible hotels we compared, it ranked joint second on review score. Guests praise the central setting near the Brewery Quarter and a breakfast buffet with a wide range of hot and cold options.
The main reservation is cost at certain times. Guests say room rates are reasonable most of the time but rise during events, and that parking costs extra.
Price and how it compares with our other two picks
For 10 to 12 November 2026, two adults and one room, the reference price was €135.22 per night, about €270 for two nights. The sample median was €162.62, so this was about 17% below. These are reference prices seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026, not live quotes. During events, prices may be much higher, so check today's price for your dates.
Our Best Value pick, Queens Hotel Cheltenham (4 stars, 8.4), was €162.62 a night. Our Luxury pick, Ellenborough Park (5 stars, 8.5), was €402.88. Holiday Inn Express matches Queens Hotel on guest score for about €27 less a night, which makes it a sensible choice if you do not need the extra star.
The property lists a gym, pool, restaurant, family rooms, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, garden and terrace. Breakfast styles listed are continental, buffet and breakfast to go. Whether breakfast is in your rate is not confirmed.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 7 eligible hotels in Cheltenham. Holiday Inn Express had the lowest eligible reference price once the upscale slot was reserved, while still ranking joint second on guest score with more than 3,000 reviews.
A Budget pick that scores the same as the Best Value pick is a good sign. That is why it earned its place.
