This is our Luxury pick in Merano. It has five official stars and a guest score of 9.4 out of 10 from 714 reviews.
It suits couples and families who want calm surroundings and plenty to do at the hotel itself. Listed facilities include a spa and wellness centre, a pool, a gym, a restaurant, free parking, family rooms, a garden and a terrace. Breakfast covers a wide range: Continental, Italian, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, American, buffet and breakfast to go.
Skip it if you want to step out of the door into the town centre. Guests put the walk at 15 to 20 minutes. It is also the most expensive of our three picks by a wide margin.
Location and getting around
The address is Dantestr. 56, in what guests describe as a quiet villa district. The location score is 9.1 out of 10.
Trauttmansdorff Castle and its gardens are close: about 0.8 km in a straight line, around 10 minutes on foot. Tyrol Castle is about 4.1 km away, roughly 51 minutes, so that one is far and needs public transport or a taxi.
Free parking is listed, which suits drivers. Guests mention that electric vehicle charging is expensive, so check the rate if you drive an EV.
What guests say
Staff earn the warmest comments. Guests describe a professional, friendly team and attentive service in a family-run atmosphere.
The quiet setting also gets praise, with the trade-off of a 15 to 20 minute walk into town.
On the downside, guests call the stay high quality but note high prices for drinks and for electric vehicle charging. Budget for those extras.
Price and what you get against our other two picks
The reference price was €526.80 per night, about €1,054 for a 2-night stay in November 2026 for 2 adults. These are reference prices seen for those dates, not live quotes. Check today's price for your dates.
That sits above the Merano sample median of €386.42. Our Best Value pick, City Hotel Merano, cost €201.20 per night with a 9.0 score, a spa and a gym. Our Budget pick, Hotel Aurora, cost €88.17 with an 8.6 score.
What the extra money buys here is five stars, the highest score of our three picks, a listed pool and restaurant, and a quieter setting near the Trauttmansdorff Gardens.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 5 eligible hotels in Merano. Five-star hotels get priority for the Luxury slot, and Hotel Ansitz Plantiz combines five stars with a 9.4 score, the second-best review position in the sample. The consistent praise for staff sealed it.
