Makara
By the Top3Hotels editorial team. Based on Booking.com guest scores and reviews, location data and reference prices. We did not stay at this hotel. Updated 2026-10-24.
Worth booking if you are driving through Katowice and want the cheapest sensible bed with free parking and a buffet breakfast. Skip it if you want to walk to the city's museums, or if a firm, narrow mattress would ruin your night.

Makara is our Budget pick for Katowice. It scores 8.5 out of 10 from 745 guest reviews and has no official star rating. It fits road travellers best: guests say it sits in a quiet area near the highway, and the property lists free parking. Family rooms are also listed, and an airport shuttle appears among the facilities, though how it works and what it costs are not confirmed.
If you plan to spend your days in central Katowice, think twice. The main sights in our data are all over 4 km away. Light sleepers fussy about beds should also read the guest comments below.
Location and getting around
The address is Pod Młynem 20, 40-313 Katowice, Poland. The location score is 8.3. Guests like the calm and point out a bus stop directly outside the door.
Walking times are straight-line estimates. The Silesian Insurgents Memorial is 4 km away, about 50 minutes on foot. The Silesian Museum is 4.2 km, about 53 minutes. The Great Synagogue (Katowice) is 4.4 km, about 55 minutes. All three are far, so plan on the bus, a taxi or your car.
What guests say
Guests praise the morning buffet and its wide range of food. Breakfast is listed as Continental and Buffet. They also like the quiet location and the bus stop outside.
The weak point is the beds. Mattress quality varies, from comfortable to hard and narrow, depending on who you ask. If you sleep badly on a firm bed, ask for details on the room before you book.
Price and what you get against our other Katowice picks
The reference price was €49.65 per night, seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 for 2 adults. That is not a live quote, so check today's price for your dates.
Our Best Value pick, Mercure Katowice Centrum, was €80.53 per night with a score of 9.3 and 4 stars. Our Luxury pick, Hotel Monopol, was €184.92 per night with 8.5 and 5 stars. Makara is about €31 a night cheaper than the Mercure, but the Mercure scores higher and its name points to a central address. For a city break on foot, the Mercure is likely worth the extra. For a drive-in overnight stop, Makara keeps costs low.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 25 hotels in Katowice. Once the upscale pick was set aside, Makara had the lowest eligible reference price. It came in about 40% below the sample median of €83.05 per night. Its guest score ranked 17th of 24 eligible properties, so it is not the best rated, but 8.5 is a sound score at this price.
