Olivia Plaza Hotel is worth booking if you want a well-reviewed 4-star base you can walk out of straight into the old town, and you can accept that guests find rooms small for the price. Skip it if room size matters more to you than location.

This is a good fit for first-time visitors who plan to spend their days on foot around Ciutat Vella. It also suits travellers who want a restaurant on site, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi without paying 5-star rates. The property also lists a terrace.
It is a weaker fit if you need a large room. The one recurring complaint in our data is that prices feel high for the room size. Travellers on a tight budget should also look at our Budget pick, covered below.
Location and getting around
The address is Plaza de Catalunya, 19, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona. Its location score is 9.9, and guests mention being close to Las Ramblas, shops and transport.
From the hotel, Barcelona Cathedral is about 0.5 km away, roughly a 6-minute walk. Sagrada Família is about 2 km away, around 25 minutes on foot. Park Güell is about 3.4 km away, around 43 minutes on foot. That is far, so plan on public transport or a taxi for it. All walking times are straight-line estimates, so real routes can take longer.
What guests say
The score is 9.3 out of 10 from more than 3,380 guest reviews. That is a large sample, which makes the number more reliable than a high score from a few dozen reviews.
Guests praise two things. The first is the central setting on Plaza Catalunya, with easy access to transport and shops. The second is the staff, described as friendly and professional, with attentive service and a warm welcome.
The criticism is about money. Guests call the rates competitive for the central area, but say prices are high for the size of the room.
Price and how it compares with our other two picks
The reference price in our data is €301.98 per night for 10 to 12 November 2026, for 2 adults in one room. This is a reference price for those dates, not a live quote. Our selection notes also quote €231.87 per night as the sample median price and place the hotel at that median. The two figures do not match, so check the live price before you decide.
Using the €301.98 figure, our Budget pick, Hotel Nouvel (3 stars, score 8.0), is €155.94 per night, about €146 less. Our Luxury pick, ME by Meliá Barcelona (5 stars, score 9.0), is €476.42 per night, about €174 more. Olivia Plaza scores higher than both on guest rating, at 9.3.
A buffet breakfast is listed. Whether it is included in the rate is not confirmed.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 40 hotels in Barcelona. Olivia Plaza ranked 2nd for review score among the 39 eligible properties in the provider sample. Our Best Value pick is the hotel with the strongest review confidence at or near the median price, and this one fits that rule.
In short, a 9.3 rating from thousands of guests, a 9.9 location score and a mid-range position between our Budget and Luxury picks. The room-size complaint is the cost of that location.
Before you book
Room size, noise, renovation condition, breakfast inclusion and cancellation terms have not been assessed. Check the room dimensions on the booking page and read recent reviews for noise on a busy square.
Confirm the final price for your dates, what the breakfast costs if it is not included, and the cancellation rules. Opening times and any fees for the restaurant or terrace should be checked too.
