Yes, book it if you want a top-rated 4-star base in Palermo's old town and can spend about twice the city median. Travellers on a tight budget should look at our Budget pick instead, since this is value for quality, not a cheap room.

Palazzo Balsamo Boutique Hotel is our Best Value pick in Palermo. It is a 4-star hotel with a guest score of 9.6 out of 10 from 192 reviews, the joint highest among the 11 hotels we compared.
It suits couples and culture-focused travellers who want to walk to the main monuments, and guests who like attentive staff with local tips. Family rooms and a spa and wellness centre are listed.
Skip it if price comes first. At €222.84 per night it cost roughly double the city median. Note too that 192 reviews is a smaller sample than at many hotels, so a few new reviews could move the score.
Location and getting around
The hotel is at Via Divisi, 93 3, in La Kalsa. Guests rate the location 9.6 out of 10 and describe a central spot in the historic district, a short walk from major monuments.
Palermo Cathedral is about 0.7 km away, roughly 9 minutes on foot, and Teatro Massimo about 1 km, roughly 13 minutes. Monreale Cathedral is a different matter: about 7.1 km, or some 89 minutes on foot, so plan on public transport or a taxi. All times are straight-line estimates.
On-site parking is not listed. Guests do say staff help with parking, so ask the hotel how it works before you arrive by car.
What guests say
Praise centres on the staff, described as friendly and professional, generous with local advice and helpful with parking. The location in the historic centre is the other theme.
Our data shows no recurring complaints. That is encouraging, but room size, noise, renovation condition and cancellation terms have not been assessed, so check recent reviews for your room type.
Price and how it compares with our other Palermo picks
The reference price was €222.84 per night. These are reference prices seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 (10 to 12 November) for 2 adults, not live quotes. The sample median was €109.00.
The listing names free Wi-Fi, a spa and wellness centre, air conditioning and family rooms. Breakfast options include continental, Italian, vegetarian, gluten-free, buffet and breakfast to go. Whether breakfast is in your rate is not confirmed.
Our Budget pick, Hotel Tonic, is a 3-star scoring 8.2 at €58.40. The Luxury pick, Grand Hotel Et Des Palmes, is a 5-star scoring 9.0 at €465. Palazzo Balsamo sits between them on price, costs less than half the Luxury pick, and has the highest guest score of the three.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 11 eligible properties in Palermo. Our Best Value pick balances guest score, number of reviews and reference price; it is not meant to be the cheapest hotel.
Palazzo Balsamo shared the top score in the sample and sits a short walk from the cathedral. Paying more than the median here buys a clearly better rating, which is why it won the slot.
Before you book
Check today's price for your dates, since the November 2026 figure is only a reference. Confirm whether breakfast is included and whether spa use has a fee or needs booking.
If you are driving, ask the hotel about parking in advance. For Monreale, plan transport rather than walking.
