Quality Hotel Prinsen

Quality Hotel Prinsen is a sound booking if you want a central base in Trondheim with a good breakfast and a short walk to Nidaros Cathedral. Skip it if room space matters a lot, because standard rooms are described as small.

Who it suits and who should skip it

First-time visitors who want to walk everywhere are the obvious fit. The 4-star hotel scores 8.7 out of 10 from 1,485 guest reviews, and its location score is higher still at 9.4. It lists family rooms, a gym, a restaurant and free Wi-Fi.

Light packers will be fine. If you travel with large suitcases or want space to spread out, think twice: guests say the standard rooms can feel cramped. Families have better luck, since reviewers mention spacious family units.

Location and getting around

You will find the hotel at Kongensgate 30, in Trondheim City Centre. Nidaros Cathedral is about 0.5 km away, roughly 6 minutes on foot. Tyholttårnet is about 2.2 km, around 28 minutes walking, and Haltdalen Stave Church is about 2.3 km, roughly 29 minutes. Both are close to the 30-minute mark, so on a cold or wet day you may prefer a bus or taxi.

All walking times are straight-line estimates and have not been checked on foot. Guests mention shops, restaurants and the airport bus stop nearby, which makes arrival and departure simple.

What guests say

The two points that come up most are location and breakfast. Guests like being close to shops, restaurants, sights and the airport bus. The buffet breakfast is described as large, with hot and cold dishes and gluten-free options.

Room size is the weak spot. Family units get positive comments, but standard rooms are called small by a share of reviewers.

Price and what you get compared with our other picks

Reference prices seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 (10 to 12 November, 2 adults, one room) were about €158 per night. The sample median was about €135, so Prinsen is above the middle. These are not live quotes. Check today's price for your dates.

Our Budget pick, Scandic Lerkendal, was about €104 per night with a score of 8.0, but it sits further out near the stadium. The Luxury pick, Britannia Hotel, scored 9.3 with 5 stars but cost about €335 per night, more than double. Prinsen sits between them: around €54 more than the Scandic for a far more central address and a higher score, and less than half the price of the Britannia.

Why it made our top 3

We compared 9 eligible hotels in Trondheim. Prinsen shares the second-highest guest score among them. Our Best Value slot weighs the score, the number of reviews and the reference price together, so it is not meant to be the cheapest option. Here the balance tips on location: 9.4 for position is hard to beat in the sample.

Before you book

Room size, noise, renovation condition, whether breakfast is included and cancellation terms are not confirmed in our data. Given the comments about small rooms, check the square metres listed for the room type you pick, or choose a family unit if you need space.

Gym hours and any fees for facilities are also not confirmed, so ask the hotel if they matter to you.
