This is our Budget pick for Essen. It suits city-break travellers, business visitors and families who want to walk to the centre and pay well under the city median. Family rooms are listed, and pets appear among the tags, but check the pet policy directly.
It is a 4-star hotel with a restaurant, garden and terrace. That is more than many budget options give you.
Skip it if you hate add-on costs. Guests say parking and breakfast fees are high, which can close the gap with pricier hotels.
Location and getting around
The address is Schützenbahn 58 in the Ostviertel area. The location score is 8.4 out of 10. Guests say it is near shopping streets, the town centre and public transport.
Essen Minster and the Golden Madonna of Essen are both about 0.5 km away, roughly 6 minutes on foot. Museum Folkwang is about 2.2 km, around 28 minutes, which is a long walk but doable. These are straight-line estimates.
If you arrive by car, expect to pay for parking according to guest feedback. Check the rate in advance.
What guests say
The score is 8.3 out of 10 from 5,089 reviews. That is a large sample, which makes the score more reliable. It ranked joint 7th of 9 eligible hotels in the sample.
Location and breakfast lead the praise. Guests like being close to the shopping streets and transport, and they describe the breakfast buffet as extensive with a wide variety of fresh food.
The complaint is about costs, not quality. Room prices are seen as reasonable, but parking and breakfast fees are considered high.
