This official 5-star hotel is our Luxury pick for Panama City. It suits couples and travellers who want to explore Casco Viejo on foot and return to attentive service. Guests mention views of the ocean and the city skyline from the Old Town setting.
It suits less well if your plans centre on the modern business districts, which are far from here, or if you want a big pool scene. It is also by far the most expensive of our three picks.
Location and getting around
The address is Calle Primera Oeste San Felipe Casco Viejo. The location score is 9.8, and guests praise the setting in the historic Old Town.
The Metropolitan Cathedral of Panama City is about 0.4 km away, roughly 5 minutes on foot by straight-line estimate. Vitri Tower is about 10 km away, some 125 minutes on foot, which is far: you will need a taxi or public transport for that side of the city. These are estimates, not measured routes.
What guests say
It holds 9.5 out of 10 from 871 reviews, the joint top score among the 14 properties we compared. Guests describe the staff as friendly, attentive and professional. They also like the Old Town location and its views of the ocean and skyline.
The pool draws the main criticism. Guests like its ocean views, but say it is small, which leads to overcrowding and limited seating. Breakfast is listed as vegetarian and American.
Price and how it compares
Reference prices seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026, for 2 adults in one room, were €369.24 a night, around €738 for both nights. The sample median was €115.72, so this hotel sat at more than three times the typical price. These are not live quotes, so check today's price for your dates.
Our Best Value pick, Plaza Paitilla Inn, was €111.23 a night with a score of 8.9. Our Budget pick, Hotel Mio Panamá, was €51.16 with 8.4. You pay about €258 more per night than Plaza Paitilla Inn for the higher score, the fifth star and the Casco Viejo address.
Listed facilities include a gym, spa, pool, restaurant, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a garden and a terrace. Opening times and any fees are not confirmed.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 14 eligible properties in Panama City. Our Luxury slot gives priority to 5-star hotels, and this one is officially 5 stars. It also shared the top guest score in the sample at 9.5, with a 9.8 location score. The review count, 871, is lower than for our other picks, so recent reviews are worth a look.
