Worth booking if you want a clean, well-run 3-star base with helpful staff and a vegetarian-friendly breakfast at a moderate price. Skip it if you want to step out of the door near the main sights, because they are a long walk away.

Sugar Stars Inn is a 3-star hotel in Mahmoorganj and our Best Value pick in Varanasi. It suits travellers who care about cleanliness and practical help, such as booking transport or tours, and who do not mind taking taxis to the sights. Families may like it too, since family rooms are listed.
It is not the right choice if walking to the main temples matters most. The location score of 8.5 is the weakest part of the profile, and light sleepers should note the comments about noise below.
Location and getting around
The address is Mahmoorganj, near Jio Petrol Pump. Kashi Vishwanath Temple is about 3 km away, roughly 38 minutes on foot by straight-line estimate. That is far for a walk, and real streets will add time, so plan on a taxi or public transport.
Chaukhandi Stupa is about 8.8 km away, around 110 minutes on foot, and Dhamek Stupa is about 9.5 km, around 119 minutes. Both are a day trip by taxi or public transport, not a walk.
The good news is that guests say staff help with booking transport and arranging tours, which takes some of the effort out of a less central address. Free parking is listed if you have a driver or car.
What guests say
The score is 8.9 out of 10 from 991 reviews, joint third of 8 eligible properties in our sample. That is a large number of reviews, so the score is a reliable signal.
Staff get the most praise: guests mention help with transport, tours and late check-outs. Cleanliness is the other strong point, with spotless, modern interiors and fresh linens and towels.
The recurring weak point is noise. The windows block outside sound well, but some guests could still hear hallway noise and, at times, street traffic.
Price and what you get compared with our other picks
The reference price was €51.78 per night, seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 for 2 adults, or about €104 for both nights. The sample median was €83.76, so it came in 38% below the middle. Prices change, so check today's price for your dates.
Our Budget pick, The Hotel Atlantes Suites Of Signature StayZ Near Vishwanath Mandir Rathyatra, was €51.59 a night with an 8.6 score and 4 stars. That is only €0.19 less, so the choice between them comes down to score versus star rating. Our Luxury pick, BrijRama Palace, Varanasi - By the Ganges, was €625.04 a night with a 9.4 score and 5 stars.
Here you get free Wi-Fi, a restaurant, a terrace, air conditioning and a breakfast described as vegetarian, vegan, Asian and buffet.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 8 eligible hotels in Varanasi. The Best Value slot balances guest score, review count and price, rather than simply picking the cheapest. With 991 reviews averaging 8.9 and a price well below the median, Sugar Stars Inn came out on top of that balance.
Before you book
Room size, renovation condition and cancellation terms have not been assessed, and whether breakfast is included is not confirmed. Check all three in the rate details. If noise bothers you, ask for a room away from the street side when you book.
