Guests rate this 3-star hotel 8.9 out of 10 from 2,070 reviews. That shared the top review-score position among the 6 properties we compared.
It suits road trippers, people breaking a long drive and families on a budget. Free parking, family rooms, a garden and a restaurant are listed, and pets are among the listed features.
Skip it if you want to explore the city on foot. It sits at a motorway service area well outside the centre, so every trip to the sights needs a car, a taxi or public transport.
Location and getting around
The address is Durham Motorway Service Area, Tursdale Road. This is not a city-centre hotel.
Durham Cathedral is about 6 km away, roughly 75 minutes on foot. Brancepeth Castle is about 8.2 km and Langley Park about 12.2 km. All three are far, so you will need your own car, a taxi or public transport.
The location score of 8.9 is good, which likely reflects convenience for drivers rather than walking access. Walking times are straight-line estimates.
What guests say
Rooms get strong praise. Guests describe them as spotless, modern and tidy throughout.
Staff are also well reviewed: friendly, helpful and welcoming, with efficient service.
The main criticism is breakfast. The continental selection is fresh, but guests note a lack of hot food. Noise and room size have not been assessed, which matters at a motorway site, so check recent reviews.
Price and value against our other Durham picks
The reference price was about €88.13 a night, seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 for 2 adults. It is not a live quote. That was 40% below the sample median of €148.05.
Our Luxury pick, Hotel Indigo - Durham by IHG, a 4-star hotel scoring 8.8, was about €181.85 a night. Our Best Value pick, Radisson Blu Hotel, Durham, a 4-star hotel scoring 8.6, was about €208.66 a night.
You pay less than half of either, and you get a higher guest score than both. The trade-off is distance from the city. Breakfast is continental, with a breakfast-to-go option, but inclusion is not confirmed. Check today's price.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 6 eligible hotels in Durham. This one shared first place on review score.
It is our Budget choice because €88.13 a night was the lowest eligible reference price after the upscale pick was reserved. Top-rated rooms at that price earn it a place, as long as you accept the location.
Before you book
Plan how you will reach the city. Check taxi costs or public transport options if you are not driving.
Ask whether breakfast is included and whether any hot items are available. Check pet rules and fees if relevant. Cancellation terms have not been assessed. Check today's price for your dates.
