This 3-star hotel suits travellers on a budget who are arriving or leaving by train, or using Kumamoto as a stop on a longer trip. Guests say it is steps from the station, with shopping malls, supermarkets and restaurants nearby.
Skip it if you want to walk out of the door to the castle and the museums. It also had the lowest review score of the 9 properties we compared, so if comfort matters more than price, our Best Value pick is worth the extra money.
Location and getting around
The address is Nishi-ku Kasuga 2-8-10, by the station. Guests mention immediate access to rail lines, trams and bus terminals, which explains the 9.0 location score.
The main sights are a fair way off. Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art is about 2.4 km, roughly 30 minutes on foot. Kumamoto Castle is about 2.5 km, around 31 minutes, so it is far on foot and you will likely want public transport or a taxi. Suizen-ji Jōju-en is 4.3 km, about 54 minutes, which is clearly too far to walk for most people. All times are straight-line estimates.
What guests say
The average is 8.3 out of 10 from 2,180 reviews. Guests like the location by the station and the easy access to public transport.
Breakfast gets mixed comments. A buffet is offered, with tasty simple dishes such as curry, but the lobby dining space gets crowded. Whether breakfast is included in the reference price is not confirmed. Room size, noise and renovation condition have not been assessed.
Price and how it compares
The reference price seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 (10 to 12 November, 2 adults, one room) was about 64.60 euros per night, around 129 euros in total. It is not a live quote, so check today's price for your dates.
Our Best Value pick, Sotetsu Grand Fresa Kumamoto, also 3 stars, came in at about 77.50 euros a night with a score of 9.0. The Luxury pick, THE BLOSSOM KUMAMOTO, a 4-star hotel, was about 136 euros with a 9.3.
For about 13 euros more a night the Best Value pick scores 0.7 points higher. This hotel is the one to choose when every euro counts. The sample median was about 85.50 euros, so it came in 25% below the typical price.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 9 eligible properties in Kumamoto. At 64.59 euros a night, this was the lowest eligible reference price once the upscale choice was set aside, which is how our Budget pick is chosen.
Its 8.3 placed it last on review score among the 9, so this pick is about price and position by the station, not about being the best rated.
Before you book
Check whether breakfast is in your rate, and expect the dining area to be busy at peak times. Read the cancellation terms, which we have not assessed.
