Varali Grand Hotel is worth booking for most travellers who want a 5-star stay on the Malecon at a price close to a mid-range hotel. Skip it if you are sensitive to humidity smells or patchy housekeeping, which some guests report.

Beach lovers and couples are the natural fit. The property lists a beachfront position, a pool, a gym, a terrace and a restaurant, and guests praise its place on the Malecon near the beach, shops and restaurants.
Families can look at the listed family rooms, and drivers benefit from the free parking listed by the property.
If your plans centre on the historic centre and the cathedral, you will spend time in taxis. And if a spotless room matters more than anything else, read the cleanliness comments below before you book.
Location and getting around
The address is Av. del Mar 2614, on the Malecon of Mazatlán. Guests rate the location 9.6 out of 10, one of the strongest numbers on this page.
The Basilica Cathedral of Mazatlán is about 4.6 km away, roughly 58 minutes on foot as a straight-line estimate. That is far, so plan on a taxi or public transport to get there.
We have no walking times to the beach itself. The beachfront listing and the guest comments suggest it is close, but confirm the exact access before you book.
What guests say
The guest score is 9.2 out of 10 from 1,902 reviews. That is a high score on a very large sample.
Location and staff lead the praise. Guests like the central position on the Malecon near the beach, shops and restaurants, and describe a friendly, helpful team that gives attentive service and a warm welcome.
Room cleanliness is the weak point. Rooms are described as generally tidy, but some guests report missed housekeeping, humidity smells and stained linens. It is not the majority view, yet it comes up often enough to note.
Price and what you get, compared with our other Mazatlán picks
The reference price seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026, for 2 adults, was €80.93 a night, about €162 in total. This is not a live quote. Check today's price for your dates.
The property lists beachfront, a gym, a pool, a restaurant, free parking, family rooms, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and a terrace. Breakfast is listed as buffet. Whether it is included in your rate is not confirmed.
Here is the unusual part. Our Best Value pick, Holiday Inn Express & Suites Mazatlan by IHG, was €85.06 a night with 3 stars and a 9.1 score, so it actually cost more than this 5-star hotel on the reference dates. Our Budget pick, Gamma Mazatlan The Inn At Centro Historico, was €68.11 a night with 3 stars and a 9.3 score. Paying about €13 a night more than the Budget pick gets you two extra stars and the Malecon address.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 10 eligible hotels in Mazatlán. Our Luxury slot prioritises official 5-star hotels, and Varali Grand Hotel has 5 stars, a 9.2 score and the second-best review-score position in the sample.
The low reference price made the case even stronger. Luxury picks rarely come this close to mid-range prices.
Before you book
Read recent reviews for comments on housekeeping and humidity, and raise any problem with the front desk early in your stay. Check whether breakfast is included.
