This 4-star hotel suits travellers who want to walk everywhere in the old centre. It scores 9.3 out of 10 from 1,501 guest reviews, and its location score is 9.8. Couples and solo visitors who plan to spend their days on foot get the most from it.
Skip it if you share a room with someone you are not fully comfortable with. Guests say the toilet sits behind transparent glass walls and doors, so it is visible from the bedroom. Travellers on a tight budget may also prefer our Budget pick, which costs much less per night.
Location and getting around
The address is Largo da Portagem 27, in Coimbra City Centre. Guests describe a central setting on a pedestrian street near the river and the university.
Three sights are close. The Old Cathedral of Coimbra is about 0.2 km away, roughly 3 minutes on foot. The Monastery of the Holy Cross is about 0.4 km, around 5 minutes. The New Cathedral of Coimbra is about 0.5 km, close to 6 minutes. These walking times are straight-line estimates, so real routes may take longer, especially on hilly streets.
What guests say
Praise focuses on two things. First, the location, with the pedestrian street and the river close by. Second, breakfast: a buffet with eggs cooked to order, fresh options and views over the river.
The main complaint is privacy. Transparent glass walls and doors leave the toilet in view of the bedroom. If that matters to you, ask the hotel which rooms have a closed bathroom before you pay.
