In Paris or London, the five-star hotels we recommend cost well over €700 a night. In the places below, a real five-star hotel, officially rated and loved by guests, costs less than a standard room in central Copenhagen.
We took every European five-star hotel in our database, kept only those with an official five-star rating and a guest score of 8.5 or higher, and checked the price for the same dates on Booking.com: 10–12 November 2026 (Tuesday to Thursday), two adults, one room, checked on 15 October 2026. Then we sorted by price.
The list
What makes each one worth it
- Grande Real Santa Eulália Resort & Hotel Spa, Albufeira (€92). A beachfront resort on the Algarve with indoor and outdoor pools and a spa. November is low season, which is exactly why it's this cheap.
- Hotel Residence Promenade, Burgas (€99). On the Black Sea seafront in central Burgas, with one of the highest scores on this list.
- NH Gran Hotel Casino de Extremadura, Badajoz (€104). A five-star with its own casino, close to the Portuguese border. A great stop on a road trip between Madrid and Lisbon.
- Old Royal Post Boutique Hotel, Prague (€104). In the Lesser Quarter (Malá Strana), below the castle and a few minutes from the Charles Bridge. The best location on this list.
- The Bridge Wrocław – MGallery, Wrocław (€107). On Cathedral Island, the oldest part of Wrocław, with a spa and sauna. Five-star polish at a three-star price.
- Radisson Blu Hotel & Residences, Zakopane (€110). A mountain resort in the Tatras with an indoor pool and spa. Over 6,000 reviews, and very family-friendly.
- Podewils Old Town, Gdańsk (€116). A small, classic hotel on the river, facing Gdańsk's old town. Fewer reviews than most here, but consistently excellent.
- Promenade Hotel Liepāja, Liepāja (€117). On the harbour canal in Latvia's coastal music city. Free parking and a spa.
- Real Marina Hotel & Spa, Olhão (€119). On the Ria Formosa lagoon in the eastern Algarve, with indoor and outdoor pools. A quieter, more local alternative to Albufeira.
- Montebelo Viseu Congress Hotel & Spa, Viseu (€121). A spa hotel with pools in the heart of the Dão wine region. Pair it with a few wineries.
- Hotel Mepas, Mostar (€122). A modern five-star with an indoor pool and spa, a short drive from the famous Old Bridge.
- Grand Hotel Açores Atlântico, Ponta Delgada (€123). On the seafront avenue of São Miguel's main town, with an indoor pool. The base for crater lakes and hot springs.

- Radisson Collection Hotel, Tallinn (€146). A tower hotel with views over the old town, a pool and a spa. Over 6,000 reviews averaging 9.4.
- InterContinental Warszawa, Warsaw (€147). A big-city five-star with a high-floor pool and more than 10,000 reviews. The cheapest capital-city luxury on this list.
- Eurostars Hotel de la Reconquista, Oviedo (€150). Oviedo's landmark hotel in a historic building in the centre.
- Hotel Ilunion Mérida Palace, Mérida (€153). On Mérida's Plaza de España, with a rooftop pool, a short walk from the Roman theatre.
The pattern: where luxury is cheap in Europe
- Second cities, not capitals. Wrocław, Gdańsk, Oviedo, Mérida, Viseu, Novi Sad: excellent hotels built for business and weddings, with far less tourist demand than the big names.
- Beach resorts out of season. The Algarve, the Black Sea and Rhodes in November cost a fraction of their August prices, and the weather is often still good for walking.
- Poland, Portugal and inland Spain. Three countries make up more than half of this list.
- The two great exceptions: Prague and Warsaw. Capital-city five-stars, in great locations, for under €150.
How to find cheap luxury yourself
- Stay mid-week. Business hotels drop on weekends; leisure hotels drop Sunday to Thursday. Check both.
- Look one city over. Segovia instead of Madrid, Olhão instead of Faro, Wrocław instead of Kraków.
- Ignore the star rating on its own. Plenty of 'five-star' hotels score 7.5. Our rule: official five stars and 8.5+ from guests.
- Count the extras. Breakfast, parking and city tax can add €30–€60 a night. Compare the total, not the headline.
Every city on this list has its own page with our three picks (budget, best value and luxury), so you can compare the five-star with cheaper options before you book. Start with Prague, Wrocław or Albufeira.
