Algarve Casino Hotel
By the Top3Hotels editorial team. Based on Booking.com guest scores and reviews, location data and reference prices. We did not stay at this hotel. Updated 2026-10-24.
Yes, it is worth booking if you want a 5-star hotel directly on Praia da Rocha with a pool, spa and gym, at a November reference price under €90 a night. Know that its guest score was the lowest of the 9 hotels we compared, so this is a facilities and location pick more than a ratings pick.

This suits travellers who want the beach on the doorstep and a full set of facilities. The listing includes a pool, a spa, a gym, a restaurant, a garden, a terrace, family rooms and free parking, which makes it practical for families and for anyone arriving by car. It is also tagged as pet friendly; confirm the rules first.
Skip it if guest rating is your main filter. At 8.2 it ranked last of 9 eligible properties on review score, and both of our other Portimão picks scored higher. It is also a poor fit if you dislike busy breakfast rooms.
Location and getting around
The address is Av. Tomas Cabreira. Praia da Rocha is about 0.2 km away, roughly 3 minutes on foot, and guests say the hotel sits directly on the beach. The Fort of São João do Arade and Praia Grande (Ferragudo) are each about 1.1 km in a straight line, roughly 14 minutes. These estimates are unverified, and the real route to Ferragudo may be much longer than the straight line suggests, so check a map before setting out on foot.
The location score from guests is 9.5 out of 10. Restaurants are close by, according to reviews.
What guests say
The score is 8.2 out of 10 from 2,620 reviews. That is a good result in absolute terms, but it was the lowest in our sample of 9.
Guests like the setting on Praia da Rocha, the sea views and the nearby restaurants. Staff are called friendly, professional and helpful.
Breakfast draws the main criticism. Guests praise the large selection and the sea views, but say the room is often crowded and the coffee machines are slow. Going early may help.
Price and how it compares with our other Portimão picks
Reference prices seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 (10 to 12 Nov), for 2 adults in one room, put it at €86.00 a night, equal to the sample median. These are not live quotes, and beach hotels can change a lot by season, so check today's price for your dates.
Our Budget pick, Flor Da Rocha, was €49.50 a night with 4 stars and 8.8. Our Best Value pick, RR Hotel da Rocha, was €94.50 with 4 stars and 8.9. In this reference the Luxury pick was cheaper than the Best Value one. You gain a fifth star and a longer facility list, but you give up a higher guest score.
Our data does not specify the breakfast type, and whether it is included is not confirmed.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 9 eligible hotels in Portimão. Our Luxury slot goes to five-star hotels first, and this one has 5 official stars, a beachfront position and a location score of 9.5. At the November reference price it also sat at the median.
It did not earn its place on guest score, where it ranked last. That tradeoff is worth weighing.
Before you book
Check whether breakfast is included and what kind is served, since our data does not say. Confirm pool and spa opening times and any fees for your dates, especially outside summer. A sea view room is not guaranteed, so ask if that matters to you.
Read the cancellation terms and confirm the parking arrangements on arrival. If you travel with a pet, check the policy and charges.
