City Studios is our Luxury pick in Preston, and also the cheapest of the three. It suits travellers who want a clean, well-kept base within walking distance of the centre, the university and the train station. A gym, free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour front desk are listed.
Two groups should think twice. Light sleepers, because guests report noise from a neighbouring pub and traffic sirens. And anyone expecting classic luxury-hotel service: the 4-star rating is an estimate by the booking site, not an official grade, and breakfast details are not confirmed.
Location and getting around
The address is 378 North Road, Preston. Guests rate the location 9.0 and say the town centre, university and train station are all walkable.
The Church of St Walburge is 0.9 km away, about 11 minutes on foot. Bamber Bridge is 5.3 km away, around 66 minutes, and the Preston England Temple is 11.7 km away, about 146 minutes. Both of those are far, so plan on public transport or a taxi. All walking times are straight-line estimates.
What guests say
The score is 8.9 out of 10 from 640 reviews, first of the 6 properties we compared.
Cleanliness is the clear strength. Guests describe the spaces as immaculate, spotless and well maintained. The walkable location also earns praise.
Noise is the weak point. Guests mention loud music from the pub next door and traffic sirens disturbing their sleep. Bring earplugs, and ask for a quieter room when you book.
Price compared with our other Preston picks
The reference price seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 (10 to 12 Nov) was €102.99 per night for 2 adults, 15% below the sample median of €121.82. It is not a live quote, so check today's price for your dates.
Here the usual order is reversed. Our Budget pick, Holiday Inn Express Preston South by IHG, scored 8.6 at €113.08 a night. Our Best Value pick, Farington Lodge Hotel, scored 8.6 at €115.41. City Studios scored higher than both and cost about €10 to €12 less a night on the reference dates. Prices shift, so compare all three for your own stay.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 6 eligible hotels in Preston. The Luxury slot goes to five-star hotels first, and a 4-star can only fill it with a score of 8.5 or higher. City Studios scored 8.9, the best in the group, so it took the slot even with an estimated rating.
