This is our Budget pick in Carlisle, a 3-star hotel scoring 8.3. It suits rail travellers, sightseers who want the cathedral and castle on foot, and families, since family rooms are listed. The data tags it as pet-friendly too, though conditions and fees need checking.
It is less suited to drivers who need guaranteed parking. Guests say secure on-site spaces are limited and awkward to reach. Also note the budget label is relative: the price gap to our Best Value pick was small.

What guests say
The 8.3 score comes from 4,850 reviews, the largest review count of our three Carlisle picks. In the sample of 3 eligible hotels it placed joint 3rd by score.
Guests like the central setting and the staff, who are described as friendly, helpful and attentive, with a warm welcome.
Parking is the main complaint, as above. Room size, noise and the condition of the rooms have not been assessed by us, so read recent reviews if those matter to you.

Our Best Value pick, Crown Hotel Wetheral, was €114.83 a night with 8.4 and 4 stars, only about €8 more. Our Luxury pick, The Halston Carlisle, was €180.69 with 9.3 and 4 stars. What you get here is the most central location of the three, right by the cathedral.

Why it made our top 3
Only 3 eligible hotels were in our Carlisle sample, so every pick was in the final group. The Budget slot goes to the lowest eligible reference price after the upscale choice is set aside, and this hotel had it.
Its strengths are the 9.5 location score and a review base of almost 5,000, which makes the 8.3 a dependable figure.
Before you book
If you drive, ask the hotel whether you can reserve a space, and look up nearby public car parks as a backup. Check whether breakfast is included.
Compare today's price with Crown Hotel Wetheral, since the gap was small. If you travel with a pet, confirm the policy directly.
