FREIgeist Göttingen Nordstadt, A Member of Design Hotels
By the Top3Hotels editorial team. Based on Booking.com guest scores and reviews, location data and reference prices. We did not stay at this hotel. Updated 2026-10-24.
FREIgeist Göttingen Nordstadt is worth booking if you want the best-rated hotel in our Göttingen sample, with a strong breakfast buffet and friendly staff. If price is the deciding factor, our other two picks cost far less for scores that are only half a point lower.

This is our Luxury pick in Göttingen. It suits visitors who care about service and a long breakfast, such as couples on a weekend away or business travellers who want a gym and a restaurant on site.
Family rooms are listed, and the data also tags the hotel as pet-friendly. Pet conditions and fees are not confirmed, so ask before you book.
Budget-minded travellers should look elsewhere. Some guests find both room rates and breakfast prices expensive, and the gap to our other picks is large.
Location and getting around
The hotel is at Weender Landstraße 100 in the Nordstadt district. Its location score is 8.3 out of 10, the lowest of its strengths but still solid.
Gänseliesel, the statue in the old town, is about 1.6 km away, roughly 20 minutes on foot. Plesse Castle is about 6.1 km, around 76 minutes, which is far, so plan on public transport or a taxi. Walking times are straight-line estimates.
Parking and links to the train station are not covered in our data. Check these with the hotel if they matter to your trip.
What guests say
The score is 8.9 out of 10 from 2,436 reviews, joint first among the 7 eligible properties we compared.
Breakfast earns the most praise. It is a buffet, and guests mention fresh salads, dishes made to order and late service on Sundays.
Staff are described as friendly, attentive and professional. The one recurring complaint is value: standards are high, but some guests feel the room rates and breakfast cost too much.
Price compared with our other Göttingen picks
Our reference price was €253.50 per night, about €507 for a 2-night stay in November 2026 for 2 adults. That is a reference, not a quote, so check today's price for your dates.
The sample median was €152.10 per night, so FREIgeist sits well above the typical rate.
Our Budget pick, Premier Inn Göttingen, is a 3-star scoring 8.4 at €117 per night. Our Best Value pick, Park Inn by Radisson Göttingen, is a 4-star scoring 8.4 at €158.10. FREIgeist has the same official 4 stars as Park Inn and costs about €95 more per night, in exchange for a half-point higher score.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 7 eligible hotels in Göttingen. The Luxury slot goes first to official 5-star hotels; a 4-star can take it only with a score of at least 8.5.
FREIgeist qualifies through that 4-star route with an 8.9, the top score in the sample. Listed facilities include a gym, a restaurant, family rooms, air conditioning, a terrace and free Wi-Fi. Opening times and any fees must be checked for your dates.
Before you book
Check whether breakfast is included or charged separately, since guests mention its cost. Room size, noise, renovation condition and cancellation terms have not been assessed.
The data also tags a spa, but it does not appear in the listed facilities, so confirm it exists before counting on it.
