Giotto Hotel & Spa is worth booking if you want to sleep a few minutes from the Basilica of Saint Francis with a spa and a wide breakfast choice, at a price below the local median. If spotless rooms are your top priority, read recent reviews first, as some guests report cleanliness lapses.

Who it suits and who should skip it

Giotto Hotel & Spa is our Best Value pick in Assisi. It suits pilgrims, couples and families who want the main sights on foot and a spa to return to. Family rooms are listed, and the breakfast list is long: continental, Italian, full English or Irish, American, vegetarian, gluten-free and buffet.

Skip it if you are sensitive to housekeeping slips. Most guests find rooms tidy, but some report stained carpets, dirty linens or bathroom odours. If you want the lowest price, our Budget pick is €14 a night cheaper.

Location and getting around

The address is Via Fontebella 41, and the location score is 9.7. By straight-line estimate, the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi is 0.3 km away, about 4 minutes on foot. San Damiano is 1.4 km, roughly 18 minutes.

The Papal Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels is 2.8 km away, about 35 minutes on foot. That is far, so plan on public transport or a taxi. Walking times have not been verified, and Assisi has steep streets, so check routes on a map.

What guests say

The score is 8.9 out of 10 from 1,289 reviews. Location gets the most praise: guests value being close to the Basilica of San Francesco and the other main sights. Staff come next, described as friendly and professional, with a warm welcome.

The weak point is room cleanliness. Rooms are generally tidy, but there are reports of stained carpets, dirty linens and bathroom odours. If anything is wrong on arrival, raise it with reception straight away.
