This is our Budget pick in Alkmaar. It suits travellers who want to stay in the centre and walk to the main church, and who like having a gym and a restaurant on site. Pets are listed as allowed.
Skip it if you want the best-rated stay. Its 8.0 is the lowest guest score among our three Alkmaar picks, and the price gap to the others is small.
Location and getting around
The address is Gedempte Nieuwesloot 36, in what the provider calls the top-rated area in Alkmaar. The location score is 9.4.
The Grote or Sint-Laurenskerk is 0.2 km away, about 3 minutes on foot. Egmond Abbey is 7.2 km, about 90 minutes, and the J.C.J. van Speijk Lighthouse is 8.6 km, about 108 minutes. Both are far, so plan on public transport or a taxi.
A beach appears in the provider facilities, but this does not confirm a beachfront location or a walking distance. Walking times are straight-line estimates and have not been verified.
What guests say
The guest score is 8.0 out of 10 from 1,326 reviews. That is a sizeable sample, so the score is fairly stable.
It placed joint 3rd of 3 eligible properties on review score, last of the group. Our data has no written summary of what guests like or dislike here. Read recent reviews for comments on room size, noise and the condition of the rooms before booking.
Price and what you get compared with our other picks
Reference prices seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 for 2 adults were €106.72 per night. The sample median was €111.47, so this was about 4% below. These are not live quotes. Check today's price for your dates.
Amrâth Hotel Alkmaar, our Best Value pick, is a 4-star hotel scored 8.1 at €111.47 per night. HOTEL ALKMAAR - Bar & Restaurant - Meeting & Events, our Luxury pick, is a 4-star hotel scored 8.5 at €113.50 per night.
All three are 4-star and within about €7 per night of each other. The saving here is small. For under €7 more, the Luxury pick scored half a point higher. What Grand Hotel Alkmaar offers is the central address, a gym, a restaurant and a breakfast that covers Continental, Full English or Irish, vegetarian, gluten-free, American and buffet styles.
Why it made our top 3
Only 3 eligible hotels were compared in Alkmaar, so each took a slot. After reserving the upscale choice, this one had the lowest reference price, which placed it in Budget.
Its strongest points are the 9.4 location score and the 3-minute walk to the Grote Kerk.
Before you book
Compare all three picks for your dates. The prices are so close that a small change could make the higher-rated Luxury pick the better deal.
Breakfast styles are listed, but inclusion in your rate is not confirmed. Room size, noise, renovation condition and cancellation terms have not been assessed. Check gym opening times and any pet fees too.
