This is our Luxury choice in Varese. It suits couples, city-break travellers and anyone arriving by train who wants to walk to shops, restaurants and sights. It scored the highest of all 6 hotels we compared.
Note that it is a four-star hotel, not a five-star. If you want a spa or pool, look at our Best Value pick instead, as neither appears in the facility data for this hotel. Very light sleepers should read the noise comments below.
Location and getting around
The address is Via Como 12. The location score is 9.5, the best of our three Varese picks.
By our straight-line estimates, the Basilica of San Vittore is about 0.2 km away, roughly 3 minutes on foot, and Palazzo Estense is about 0.5 km, around 6 minutes. These times have not been verified, but both are close.
Guests say the old town, the train station, shops and restaurants are a short walk away. Free parking is listed too, which helps if you arrive by car. Check that a space is available for your dates.
What guests say
The score is 9.2 out of 10 from 943 reviews, joint 1st of the 6 eligible hotels we compared. The sample is smaller than for our other two picks, but the score is clearly higher.
Location is the most praised point. Staff come next: guests describe a friendly, professional and helpful team.
The main complaint is noise. Guests call the area generally calm, but some rooms hear street cleaning trucks or neighbours. Ask for a room away from the street if you sleep lightly.
Price and how it compares with our other picks
Reference prices seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 for 2 adults came to about €148 per night, against a sample median of €117.50. These are not live quotes, so check today's price for your dates.
Our Budget pick, UNAHOTELS Varese, scores 8.6 at about €108.85 per night, around 21 minutes from the Basilica on foot. Our Best Value pick, Hotel Horizon Wellness & Spa Resort - Best Western Signature Collection, scores 8.5 at about €122 per night and adds a spa, but is about 41 minutes away on foot.
So for about €26 to €40 more per night than the other two, you get the highest score and a central address. For a short city visit, that difference is easy to justify.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 6 eligible hotels in Varese. For the Luxury slot, five-star hotels are prioritised, and a four-star hotel only qualifies if it scores at least 8.5. With 9.2, this hotel cleared that bar comfortably.
Listed facilities include a gym, free parking, free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and a garden. Breakfast options listed are continental, Italian, gluten-free, buffet and breakfast to go.
Before you book
Room size, noise levels, renovation condition, breakfast inclusion and cancellation terms have not been assessed. Check your rate to see whether breakfast is included.
The hotel is tagged as pet friendly, but the rules and any fees are not confirmed. Ask before you arrive with a pet, and request a quieter room when you book.
