Hotel Durao is worth booking if you want the lowest sensible price in Viseu and can accept a 21-minute walk to the old centre. Travellers who care most about guest scores should look at our other two picks, which rate higher for a modest extra cost.

This is our Budget pick for Viseu. It suits couples and solo travellers who want a 3-star room with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and a buffet breakfast at a reference price of about €70 a night. If you only need a clean base, the numbers work.
Skip it if a high guest score matters most to you. Its 8.2 out of 10 is solid, but it sat 7th of 8 eligible properties on review score in the sample we compared. Skip it too if you want to step out of the door straight into the historic streets, because the old centre is a fair walk away.
Location and getting around
The address is Av. da Bélgica 203-A. Viseu Cathedral and the Grão Vasco National Museum are both about 1.7 km away, roughly 21 minutes on foot. That is manageable for most people, but it is not a two-minute stroll, so think about it on a rainy November evening.
The Monastery of Santa Maria de Maceira Dão is 10.2 km away, around 128 minutes on foot. That is far. You will need public transport or a taxi to get there.
Walking times are straight-line estimates, so real routes can be longer. Guests rate the location 8.5 out of 10. Parking is not confirmed in the data, so ask the hotel if you are driving.
What guests say
The overall picture comes from 1,089 guest reviews averaging 8.2 out of 10, a sample large enough to trust as a general signal.
We do not have a summary of specific guest likes or dislikes for this hotel. Read a handful of recent reviews on the booking site before you commit, and look for comments on cleanliness and street noise in particular.
Price and what you get compared with our other picks
The reference price seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 (10 to 12 November, 2 adults, one room) was €70 a night, so about €140 for both nights. That was 21% below the sample median of €88.40 a night. These are reference prices, not live quotes, so check today's price for your dates.
The property lists a restaurant, a garden, a terrace, free Wi-Fi and air conditioning. Breakfast is described as a buffet, but whether it is included in your rate is not confirmed.
For comparison, our Best Value pick, Pousada De Viseu, scored 9.0 with 4 stars at about €88.80 a night. Our Luxury pick, Montebelo Viseu Congress Hotel & Spa, scored 9.1 with 5 stars at about €124.50. Paying roughly €19 more a night gets you a noticeably higher guest score at the Pousada. If budget is tight, Hotel Durao saves that money.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 8 eligible properties in Viseu. Hotel Durao was the lowest eligible reference price once the upscale choice had been set aside, which is how our Budget slot works. Its score of 8.2 across more than a thousand reviews shows it is a safe, ordinary choice rather than a standout one.
Before you book
Room size, noise levels, the condition of the rooms and the cancellation terms have not been assessed. Check each of these on the booking page. Confirm whether breakfast is in your rate, whether the restaurant and terrace are open in your season, and whether any fees apply.
