Hotel Schweizerhof Bern & Spa
By the Top3Hotels editorial team. Based on Booking.com guest scores and reviews, location data and reference prices. We did not stay at this hotel. Updated 2026-10-24.
Worth booking if you want a five-star in the old city with strong service and the Federal Palace 4 minutes away, and the budget is not a concern. Skip it if a spa is the main draw, since guests often find it small and crowded, or if you want value for money.

This is our Luxury pick in Bern. It fits travellers who want five-star service in a central spot, people arriving by train, and couples on a special trip. Family rooms are listed, and the listing tags indicate pets are accepted.
It is not for anyone counting euros. At the reference price it cost more than three times the sample median. Spa lovers should also lower expectations: the pool and sauna are relaxing, but guests often describe them as small and crowded.
Location and getting around
The address is Bahnhofplatz 11, in the Old City of Bern. The location score is 9.7. Guests say it is close to the university, shops and restaurants.
The Federal Palace of Switzerland is about 0.3 km away, roughly 4 minutes on foot. The Zytglogge is about 0.5 km (6 minutes) and Bern Minster about 0.8 km (10 minutes). These are straight-line estimates. You can reach the main sights on foot.
What guests say
The score is 9.0 out of 10 from 1,267 reviews, joint second of the 8 properties in the sample.
Guests praise the central Old Town setting and a friendly, professional team, with specific mentions of efficient valet and housekeeping service.
The recurring criticism is the spa. The pool and sauna are described as relaxing, yet frequently small and crowded. If wellness is a big part of your plans, keep that in mind.
Price compared with our other two picks
Reference prices seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 (10 to 12 Nov, 2 adults) were about 743 euros a night, around 1,485 euros for the stay. The sample median was about 230 euros a night. These are not live quotes, so check today's price for your dates.
Our Budget pick, ibis Styles Bern City, was about 171 euros with an 8.5 score. Our Best Value pick, Swissôtel Kursaal Bern, was about 219 euros with an 8.8 score. The gap is very large: you pay over 500 euros more a night than the Best Value pick for a score just 0.2 higher.
What the extra buys is five stars, a spa, a gym, a restaurant, a terrace, valet service mentioned by guests and a central address. Breakfast details are not listed, so whether it is included is not confirmed.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 8 eligible properties in Bern. For the Luxury slot we prioritise official five-star hotels. The Schweizerhof has five stars, a 9.0 guest score and a 9.7 location score, which together earned it the place.
