This is our Budget pick for Passau. It has 4 stars and a guest score of 8.3 out of 10 from 1,845 reviews. Short city breaks and sightseers who want to step out of the door into the old town are the best match.
Facilities in our data are limited: free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour front desk. Breakfast is continental and buffet style.
Skip it if you travel with a lot of luggage or want space to spread out. Guests describe the rooms as small, tiny and tight. Families should check room configurations carefully, since family rooms are not listed.
Location and getting around
The address is Schrottgasse 2. Guests rate the location 9.6 out of 10 and describe a central Old Town setting near the Danube river, the cathedral and the town hall.
Our straight-line estimates put St. Stephen's Cathedral, Passau at 0.2 km, about 3 minutes on foot. St. Michael's Church, Passau is also 0.2 km, about 3 minutes. Veste Oberhaus is 0.3 km in a straight line, about 4 minutes, but that is a direct-line figure. The real walking route may be longer, so check a map before you set off.
Parking is not listed in our data. If you drive, ask the hotel about parking before you arrive, since old town streets can be tricky.
What guests say
Location is the clear favourite. Guests like being close to the river, the cathedral and the town hall.
Breakfast earns praise for its setting. It is served in a top-floor hall with views over the city rooftops.
Room size is the main drawback. Reviewers repeatedly call the rooms small, tiny and tight, with limited space.
Price and how it compares with our other Passau picks
The reference price was €92.00 a night. It comes from prices seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 (10 to 12 November) for 2 adults in one room. It is not a live quote, so check today's price for your dates.
That was about 21% below the sample median of €116.75. Our Best Value pick, mk hotel passau, was €99.50 a night with a score of 8.7 and 4 stars. Our Luxury pick, Passau - Suites, was €210.60 with a score of 9.8 and 4 stars.
Be honest with yourself here. The mk hotel was only €7.50 a night more for a higher score. Wilder Mann wins on its old town address and a rooftop breakfast room. If location is less important to you than score and space, the mk hotel may suit you better.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 4 eligible properties in Passau, a small sample. Wilder Mann ranked fourth of four on guest score. It took the Budget slot because, after reserving the upscale choice, it had the lowest eligible reference price.
The 9.6 location score and 1,845 reviews support it as a central, lower-cost base, but it is not the best-rated hotel on our list.
