Leonardo Hotel Middlesbrough
By the Top3Hotels editorial team. Based on Booking.com guest scores and reviews, location data and reference prices. We did not stay at this hotel. Updated 2026-10-24.
Book it if you want a 4-star hotel with a gym and pool listed, a central Fry Street address and a price right at the city median. If spotless rooms matter most to you, read the cleanliness complaints first and compare it with our Luxury pick, which cost about €1 more.

This is our Best Value pick in Middlesbrough. It is a 4-star hotel scoring 8.0 out of 10 from 2,869 reviews, the largest review count of our three picks in the city.
It suits travellers who want facilities beyond a bed. The property lists a gym, a pool and a restaurant, which the other two picks do not list.
Skip it if cleanliness is your top concern. That is the main complaint, and our other two picks both score higher with guests.
Location and getting around
The address is Fry Street. Guests rate the location 8.6 out of 10 and say it is a short walk from the town centre, the train station and the stadium.
Tees Transporter Bridge is about 0.9 km away, roughly 11 minutes on foot. Ayresome Park is about 1.7 km, around 21 minutes.
Middlesbrough Cathedral is about 6.1 km away, some 76 minutes on foot. That is far, so you will need public transport or a taxi.
Treat these times as straight-line estimates. They have not been checked on foot.
What guests say
Staff earn the clearest praise. Reviewers describe a friendly, professional and helpful team and a warm welcome.
The location is the other strong point, with the centre, the station and the stadium all within walking distance according to guests.
Cleanliness is where opinions split. Some guests find rooms spotless, but there are frequent reports of dust, stained carpets and missed vacuuming. With nearly 2,900 reviews behind the score, this pattern is worth taking seriously.
Price and how it compares with our other Middlesbrough picks
The reference price was €180.46 per night, a reference price seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 for 2 adults. It is not a live quote, so check today's price for your dates.
That figure matched the sample median for the city exactly.
Our Budget pick, Holiday Inn Express Middlesbrough - Centre Square by IHG, was €161.45 with a score of 8.5 and 3 stars. Our Luxury pick, Station Suites Aparthotel, was €181.62 with a score of 9.2 and 4 stars.
Here is the honest catch: the Luxury pick cost only €1.16 more per night and scored higher. The case for this hotel rests on the gym and pool listed by the property, and on its long review record. If you do not need those, compare carefully.
Listed facilities are free Wi-Fi, a restaurant, a fitness centre and a pool. Breakfast details are not confirmed in our data.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 3 eligible properties in Middlesbrough. The Best Value slot balances guest score, number of reviews and reference price, so it is not always the cheapest hotel.
This one combined 4 stars, a median price and the deepest review history in the sample. On score alone it ranked third of three, which is why we flag the cleanliness feedback so clearly.
