This is our Best Value pick for Mataró. It suits couples, families and travellers who want to sleep in Mataró and take the train into Barcelona. The property lists family rooms, air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour front desk, which helps with late arrivals.
Skip it if you are sensitive to bed comfort. Guests say the beds are large but some mattresses feel too soft or sink in the middle. If you want a four-star hotel with more facilities, our Luxury pick was only slightly more expensive on our reference dates.
Location and getting around
The address is Colon, 6. Guests say it is a short walk to the beach, the town centre and the train station with connections to Barcelona. The location score is 8.9 out of 10.
By our straight-line estimate, the Mataró Museum is 0.4 km away, about 5 minutes on foot. Our data does not include distances to the beach or station, so we cannot confirm exact walking times. A beach appears in the provider's facility list, but that does not mean the hotel is on the beachfront.
Walking times are estimates, not measured routes. Check train times to Barcelona for your dates, and ask the hotel about parking, which is not confirmed in our data.
What guests say
New Hotel Colon scores 8.4 out of 10 from 1,500 reviews. Guests like the location, with the beach, centre and station all within a short walk. Staff also get praise: a friendly, helpful and young team available 24 hours a day.
The main complaint is bed comfort. Beds are large, but some guests find the mattresses too soft or sagging in the middle. Breakfast is listed as continental, gluten-free and buffet. Whether it is included in your rate is not confirmed.

Prices in Mataró were tightly grouped. Our Budget pick, B&B HOTEL Barcelona Mataro, was €76.68 a night with an 8.0 score and two stars. Our Luxury pick, Atenea Port Barcelona Mataró, was €93.85 with an 8.5 score and four stars. That leaves just €5.39 a night between this hotel and the Luxury pick, so check both for your dates before you decide.
Why it made our top 3
We compared only 3 eligible properties in Mataró, so the choice here was limited. This hotel shared second place by review score. Our Best Value slot balances guest score, number of reviews and reference price, so it is not necessarily the cheapest.
Its median price, solid 8.4 and 1,500 reviews put it in the middle slot. With such a small sample, treat our ranking as a guide and compare the three directly.
