Hotel Speicher am Ziegelsee

Worth booking if you want the best-reviewed hotel in our Schwerin sample, with a spa, gym and free parking, and you accept paying more than the city norm. Travellers who mainly need a bed near the old town can save money at our other two picks.

Who it suits and who should skip it

This is our Luxury pick for Schwerin. It fits couples and families who want a calm base with extras on site: the property lists a spa and wellness centre, a gym, a restaurant, a garden, a terrace and family rooms. Drivers get free parking, which matters if you are touring the region by car.

Skip it if price per square metre is your main test. The one recurring complaint in guest feedback is that rates feel high for the size of the rooms.

Location and getting around

The address is Speicherstr. 11. Guests describe a quiet setting by the water, a short walk from the old town and the castle. The location score is 9.4 out of 10.

Our straight-line walking estimates: Schwerin Cathedral is 1.3 km away, about 16 minutes on foot. The Staatliches Museum Schwerin is 1.7 km, around 21 minutes. Schwerin Castle is 1.9 km, roughly 24 minutes. These are estimates, not measured routes.

Public transport options near the hotel are not confirmed in our data. If you will arrive without a car, check the route from the station before you book.

What guests say

The score is 9.0 out of 10 from 1,076 reviews, a solid volume for a city of this size. Two themes come up most in positive feedback. First, the location: quiet, near the water and within walking distance of the main sights. Second, breakfast: an extensive buffet with organic items, fresh bread and the option to sit outside.

The listed breakfast styles are continental, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and buffet. Whether breakfast is included in your rate is not confirmed, so check the booking conditions.

On the negative side, guests rate the service highly but feel the prices are steep for what the rooms offer in space. We have not assessed room size or noise ourselves.

Price and how it compares with our other Schwerin picks

The reference price seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 (10 to 12 Nov, 2 adults, one room) was €184.21 per night. The median in our sample was €143.83, so this hotel sat about €40 above the middle of the market. These are reference prices, not live quotes. Check today's price for your dates.

For comparison, our Budget pick, Courtyard by Marriott Schwerin, came in at €112.40 a night with a score of 8.0. Our Best Value pick, Hotel Niederländischer Hof, was €137.44 with a score of 8.8. Both are four-star hotels, like this one. What the extra money buys here is the highest guest score of the three and the on-site spa, gym and free parking.

Why it made our top 3

We compared 4 eligible properties in Schwerin. This hotel shared the top review-score position among them. Our Luxury slot prioritises five-star hotels, and a four-star fallback has to score at least 8.5. With an official four-star rating and a 9.0 score, it passed that bar comfortably.

Before you book

Room size, noise levels, renovation condition, breakfast inclusion and cancellation terms have not been assessed. Read the room descriptions carefully if space matters to you, since that is the main complaint.

Check spa opening hours and whether any fees apply, and confirm parking is still free for your dates.
