This is our Luxury pick in Bilbao. It suits couples and families who want 5-star service and the Guggenheim on the doorstep. Family rooms, a gym, a restaurant, air conditioning and a terrace are listed, and the hotel is tagged for spa, which is worth confirming.
Skip it if you mainly want the Old Town at your feet: Hotel Tayko Bilbao is much closer to the cathedral and costs less. Price-sensitive travellers should also note the comments about breakfast costs.
Location and getting around
The address is Alameda de Mazarredo 61, in the Ensanche district. The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is about 0.1 km away, roughly a minute on foot, and guests describe the hotel as directly opposite it. Bilbao Cathedral is about 1.4 km, roughly 18 minutes. These walking times and distances have not been verified.
The Vizcaya Bridge is 9.1 km away, around 114 minutes on foot, so it is far. Use public transport or a taxi to get there. The location score is 9.8, the highest of our three Bilbao picks.
What guests say
The hotel scores 9.3 out of 10 from 3,430 reviews, joint first of 9 eligible properties in the provider sample. With thousands of reviews behind it, this score is reliable.
Guests single out the location, opposite the Guggenheim and a short walk to the city centre, and the staff, described as professional and friendly with helpful tips. The recurring complaint is value: facilities are seen as high quality, but breakfast prices are considered expensive.
Price and how it compares with our other picks
The reference price seen for a 2-night stay in November 2026 (10 to 12 Nov, 2 adults, one room) was €297 a night, about €594 in total. The sample median was €212.59, so you pay a premium of about €84 a night. These are reference prices, not live quotes; check today's price for your dates.
Hotel Tayko Bilbao, our Best Value pick, was €212.59 a night with a 9.2 score. Hotel Bilbao Plaza, our Budget pick, was €118.15 with an 8.5 score. The gap in guest score between The Artist and Tayko is small, so the extra money here mainly buys the 5-star category and the Guggenheim location.
Why it made our top 3
We compared 9 properties in Bilbao. Five-star hotels get priority for our Luxury slot, and The Artist is rated 5 stars by the accommodation itself, with the joint-best guest score in the sample. That combination made it the clear upscale choice.
Before you book
Compare a rate with breakfast against one without, since guests find breakfast pricey. Confirm spa access and any fees. Room size, noise, renovation condition and cancellation terms have not been assessed, so check the listing and the policy before paying.
